Volatility describes the shape of a game's payouts, not their size over time. A low-volatility slot returns small amounts frequently, which keeps a balance alive and makes wagering progress feel steady. A high-volatility slot pays seldom and then substantially, which means long dry stretches punctuated by results that make the whole session.

With a wagering requirement attached, this becomes a practical choice rather than a matter of taste. Low volatility tends to survive the grind of a 40x requirement because the balance depletes slowly. High volatility either clears it quickly or ends the attempt early, and both outcomes are normal rather than evidence of anything.
